titleOfInvention Process for removing heavy metals from aqueous solutions by means of ion exchange resins
abstract Heavy metals, for example iron, are removed from aqueous solutions from photographic processes by passing the solutions through a bed containing a mixture of cationic and anionic exchange resins. Preferably the cationic exchange resin is a strongly acidic resin, for example in the protonated form, and the anionic exchange resin is a strongly basic resin, for example in the hydroxylated form. Preferably the proportions of cationic to anionic exchange resins in the mixture are in the range 60:40 to 40:60, the basis being by equivalents. The proces is particularly suitable for the removal of iron in the form of a chelate from the wash water from photographic development processes.
