titleOfInvention INTRAOCULAR LENS WITH TWO 360o HAPTICS
abstract A posterior chamber intraocular lens (10) designed for in-the-bag implantation has a central optic (11) and a surrounding pair of 360 degrees haptics constituted by two concentric endless rings (12, 13) of different diameters. The outer ring (13) which presses against the interior surface of the equatorial region of the capsular bag constitutes a primary mechanical barrier to the migration of epithelial cells into the optic region of the posterior capsule. The inner ring (12) presses against the anterior surface of the posterior capsule a short distance away from the equatorial region and constitutes a secondary mechanical barrier to the migration of epithelial cells, thereby to inhibit capsular fibrosis and posterior capsular opacification.
