| abstract |
Gels based on a network of oxygen-bridged metal and / or semimetal atoms, produced by means of a hydrolytic sol-gel process, are often not homogeneous. Known non-hydrolytic sol-gel processes lead to halogen-containing gels.n n n A new non-hydrolytic sol-gel process was found which leads to halogen-free and homogeneous gels and xerogels obtainable therefrom.n n n Here, in a water- and hydroxyl-free organic solvent, one or more compounds (I) from the series of metal or semimetal alcoholates, oxoalcoholates, amides or oxoamides with one or more compounds (II) from the series of metal or semimetal carboxylates or oxocarboxylates condensed with elimination of carboxylic acid esters or carboxamides until gel formation.n n n Preferred gels and xerogels in the network contain metal or semimetal atoms from the 3rd to 5th main and subgroups as well as the rare earth elements.n n n The gels and xerogels can be used to produce oxidic ceramic materials and to coat pigments. |
