abstract In order to be able to determine the concentration c of an absorbent homogeneously distributed in the carrier substance even with an unknown layer thickness d of the carrier substance, an absorbent is used whose measured absorption a (λ) deviates from Lambert-Beer law, especially in the region of higher concentration, where n ≧ 2 fictional components of the absorbent are assumed, so that a (λ) = (∈₁ (λ) · c₁ + ∈₂ (λ) · c₂ + ....... + ∈ n (λ) · c n ) · d. The absorption a (λ i ) is then measured at at least n wavelengths, the spectral absorption values ∈ i (λ i ) and the concentrations c i of the fictitious components are calculated, and the functional relationship between the concentration c and the concentrations derived from calibration measurements c i of the fictitious components c = f (c i ) determines the concentration c.
