There is disclosed a variable length code recording apparatus, in which input video data are compressed in two stages, with a low compression ratio and a high compression ratio, and wherein a decision is taken, for each location on the recording medium, whether the storage data are to be data compressed with a high compression ratio or data compressed with a low compression ratio. n Corresponding playback means are also disclosed. |
