abstract An acrylic acid ester is produced by reacting said acid and an alcohol chosen from primary and secondary monoalcohols aliphatic at C₅ or above, in the presence of an acid as an esterification catalyst and a polymerization inhibitor , the alcohol being capable of forming a heteroazeotrope with water, the water formed by the esterification reaction being carried out by distillation in a column in the form of a heteroazeotropic mixture with the alcohol, which mixture, comprising a amount of unreacted acrylic acid is then subjected, after condensation, to separation to give an upper organic phase which is recycled at the top of the distillation column and a lower aqueous phase which is drawn off; according to the invention, an extraction is carried out (for example in a CE extraction column) of the acrylic acid contained in the condensed heteroazeotropic mixture (M) sent to the phase separation by a mixture rich in esterifying alcohol, and returns to the top of the distillation column (CD), the acrylic acid thus extracted, as a constituent of the recycled organic phase, with an increase in the rate of reflux in the distillation column (CD) relative to natural reflux.
