Device for introduction of a catheter into a body cavity |
abstract |
A catheter for spinal anesthesia contains a needle (12), the length of which is shorter than that of the catheter (10). At the rear end of the needle (12) there is a handling thread (17) with which the needle (12) can be pulled out of the catheter towards the patient end. The needle (12) is a hollow needle with a lateral opening (15). When the needle tip (16) is advanced into the subarachnoid space, liquor flows through the opening (15) into the catheter (10), whereby the puncture success can be determined. When puncturing the dura with the needle tip (16), the puncture hole is widened through the front end (26) of the catheter (10) so that the catheter completely fills the puncture hole. After the puncture, the needle (12) is pulled out by pulling on the handling thread (17). |
