Conversion of certain ethers, such as sec-butyl ether and isopropyl ether, to corresponding reaction products, including alcohols and olefins, is conducted in the presence of (i) water, (ii) a surfactant, for example dodecyl benzene sulphonic acid/monoethanolamine product. Preferably at least about 10⁻⁵ molar concentration of surfactant is employed. An increase in reaction rate is achieved. |
