titleOfInvention | POLYESTERS WITH GLYCIDYL TERMINAL GROUPS AND THE USE OF THESE POLYESTERS IN THE PRODUCTION OF POWDER PAINT COMPOSITIONS. |
abstract | The invention relates to glycidyl ester terminated polyesters according to formula (I), wherein: P represents the polymeric backbone of the polyester; R is H or (C1-C5) alkyl; and n is greater than 2, and wherein said glycidyl ester terminated polyester has an Mn between about 500 and about 10,000, a Tg between about 30 °C and about 80 °C, and an epoxy equivalent weight (EEW) between about 250 and about 5000 grams. The glycidyl ester terminated polyester can be obtained by reaction between a carboxyl groups terminated polyester and an epihaloalkane, preferably epichlorohydrin. These polyesters find application in the preparation of powder coatings. |
