abstract A coarse powder of MgCl₂, and optionally titanium tetrachloride, is introduced into a plasma torch and a very fine particle size powder is recovered after cooling. The process is particularly applicable to MgCl₂ coated with titanium tetrachloride. It is also possible to cover the very fine powder with an electron donor during cooling.
