titleOfInvention Preparation of an intermediate for vitamin A-acetate
abstract A new process for the production of γ-acetoxytiglinaldehyde, which is known as an important starting material for the production of vitamin A acetate from a (β-Jonylidenäthyl) triphenylphosphonium halide and this aldehyde, consists in that a pentenin-3-ol of Formula HC≡CC (CH₃) (OH) -CH = C (R) ₂ (II), in which both R are either hydrogen or methyl, is subjected to a selective ozonolysis in a lower alkanol R¹OH, in which R¹ is C₁₋₄-alkyl , the 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-butinal so obtained of the formula HC≡CC (CH₃) (OH) -CHO (III) and any 1-alkoxyalkyl hydroperoxide of the formula (HOO) (R¹) CR² obtained as a by-product (IV) to the known 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-butenal of the formula H₂C = CH-C (CH₃) (OH) -CHO (V) catalytically and (for III) selectively hydrogenated and this in a known manner in the γ-acetoxytiglinaldehyde of the formula CH₃COO-CH₂CH = C (CH₃) -CHO (I) transferred. The conversion of the butenal V into the aldehyde I can expediently be carried out by the known process steps acetalization, acetylation, catalyzed rearrangement and acid-catalyzed hydrolysis.
