A process for the production of 1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinones represented by the general formula:n n whereinn R¹ represents optionally substituted C₁₋₁₂ alkyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ cycloalkyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ alkenyl, optionally substituted C₃₋₈ alkynyl, or a group represented by the general formula n n whereinn Ar represents optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted naphthyl or an optionally substituted five- to seven-membered heterocyclic ring, R³ represents hydrogen or C₁₋₄ alkyl, and n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, which comprises reacting the thioxo group of 1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinethiones represented by the general formula (II)n n whereinn R¹ has the same meaning as mentioned above, with ethylene oxides of the general formula (III)n n whereinn R² represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, in the presence of a base, and in the presence of water or an alcohol or a solvent mixture thereof. |
