abstract An in vitro test for determining the presence of leukocytes in a body fluid or tissue sample which is sensitive to the numbers of leukocytes typically found in inflammatory processes, such as diarrheal specimens, by testing the fecal sample with an assay utilizing an antibody for lactoferrin. Additionally, the test can be used to detect low white blood cell counts as low as about 200 WBCs/ul.
