abstract A new method for preparing Grignard reagents comprises (a) reacting an organic halide with Mg metal in the presence of ethylene glycol dibutyl ether and (b) cooling the mixt. to room temp. The process occurs in the absence of tetrahydrofuran, benzene, toluene and diethyl ether stabilising agents. Pref. the organic halide is an alkyl halide, esp. an alkyl chloride.
