titleOfInvention Reaction-based selection for expression of and concentration of catalytic moieties
abstract A recombinant virus or an organism population capable of expression of a surface-bound catalytic moiety is selected by:- reaction-based selection for catalytic activity by a surface-bound catalytic moiety of a population of recombinant viruses or organisms expressing the catalytic moiety, and isolating from said population a subpopulation which can act catalytically, wherein the reaction-based selection comprises contacting said population with a surface including an immobilized hapten or substrate and eluting from said surface said subpopulation which can act catalytically while retaining a population that has binding affinity for the hapten or substrate but no catalytic activity. The method can be used to increase the proportion of catalytic to non-catalytic moieties in a sample. Also provided is a method for producing a recombinant virus or cell line, capable of expression of a surface-bound catalytic moiety and a substantially pure recombinant virus population or cell line. <IMAGE>
