A process for producing copolymers from monoethylenically unsaturated monomers containing acid groups and from N-vinyl lactames and possibly from other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers by copolymerising the monomers in the presence of radical-forming polymerisation initiators in the manner of solution polymerisation in water at a pH of at least 6. An alkaline metal or earth metal base or a mixture thereof is used to adjust the pH of the aqueous reaction solution. |
