titleOfInvention SOLVENT-FREE DISTILLATION PROCESS RELATING TO A DIMER CYCLIC ESTER.
abstract A dimeric cyclic ester of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid (lactide) is separated and recovered from a product stream taking the form of vapor and containing the cyclic ester, the hydroxycarboxylic acid (lactic) corresponding to point d Lower boiling, higher boiling oligomeric hydroxycarboxylic acid, as well as water, without the use of solvents. Specifically, the vapor stream is condensed to give a condensate which practically contains all of the cyclic ester. This condensate is refined only by distillation, in order to recover a practically water-free cyclic ester, alpha-hydroxycarbylic acid and the higher boiling oligomers.
