The invention relates to water-soluble macromers which are modified by the addition of polymerizable free radical groups, such as those containing a carbon or carbon double or triple bond, and which can be polymerized under moderate conditions to encapsulate biologically active tissues, cells or materials. These polymeric materials are in particular useful as adhesives for fabrics, as coatings for tissue lights, and in particular blood vessels, as coatings for cells such as the islets of Langerhans, as coatings, stoppers, supports or substrates intended to be brought into contact with biological materials such as the body, and as drug delivery devices for biologically active molecules. |
