abstract |
The biocompatibility of various polymers is improved by mixing them with a polymer containing a zwitterionic group. Said zwitterionic group is generally a zwitterionic group of ammonium phosphate ester and the polymer containing it can be produced by polymerization of the free radicals of ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising a monomer carrying the zwitterionic group. The two polymers can be mixed by dry mixing of the particulate polymers or by mixing the polymers in a dispersion or a liquid solution and by extracting the latter from the liquid medium. The absorption of fibrinogen and / or the platelet activation of polymers can be reduced to a value less than 80% or even to 60% of the base polymer by incorporating doses of polymer containing the zwitterionic group of more than 10 or 30% . The preferred blends are copolymers of internal salts of 2- (methacryloyloxyethyl) -2 '- (trimethylammonium) ethyl and higher alkyl (meth) acrylate mixed with olefin polymers and / or rubber-elastomeric latexes. These products can be used in medical devices in which they come into contact with biological fluids, more particularly blood, plasma, serum and / or tear film. |
