Radiation-contaminated elastomers. |
abstract |
Radiation crosslinkable elastomeric compositions which contain (a) an elastomeric polymer containing hydrogen atoms separable in sufficient quantity to allow said elastomeric polymer to undergo crosslinking in the presence of an appropriate radiation active crosslinking agent and (b) an agent activated crosslinking of formula (1) in which w is -O-, -N- or -S-; X is CH3 or fig. (2); Y is a ketone, ester or amide functionality; Z is an organic spacer which does not contain hydrogen atoms being more photo-separable than the hydrogen atoms of the elastomeric polymer; m is an integer from 0 to 6; a is 0 or 1; and n is an integer greater than or equal to 2. Said radiation crosslinked elastomers are prepared by exposing the radiation crosslinkable elastomer compositions to radiation (eg UV light) intended to separate the hydrogen atoms from the elastomeric polymer by l action of the crosslinking agent activated by radiation. |
