abstract The invention discloses means for diagnosing t(8; 21)-type acute myelogenous leukemya with a simple operation and a high sensitivity. The invention provides a DNA fused with AML1-MTG8 having the base sequence represented by the sequence identification number 1, and a fragment of said DNA containing the fusion site; a polypeptide fused with AML1-MTG8 having the amino acid sequence represented in the sequence identification number 1, and a fragment of said polypeptide containing the fusion site; a mRNA fused with AML1-MTG8 having the base sequence represented by the sequence identification number 1 wherein thymine is replaced by uracil, and a fragment thereof; a probe prepared by labelling the DNA fragment and a method of detecting the fused DNA by using the same; and a method of detecting a DNA fused with AML1-MTG8 or a fragment thereof in a specimen by amplifying the fused DNA or a fragment thereof by the polymerase chain reaction, and detecting the DNA fragment thus amplified.
