titleOfInvention Process for degrading noxious polymeric matters by means of hydrogen peroxide in combination with UV-irradiation
abstract The invention relates to a process for the degradation of polymeric pollutants in water, in particular lacquer binders dissolved or dispersed in water.n n n The degradation of polymeric substances in water is known to often cause problems compared to low-molecular substances.n n n According to the invention, polymeric substances are degraded in water with the addition of compounds which form hydroxyl radicals, in particular hydrogen peroxide, under UV radiation. According to the invention, the ratio of the non-irradiated to the irradiated reactor volume is above 2, preferably above 5. The specific volume is between 4 and 1000 l per kW of electrical power from the UV lamp (s).
