An aqueous initiator composition contains a dispersion of an aqueous phenolic resin stabilized with polyvinyl alcohol, a latex of a halogenated polyolefin and a metal oxide. The dispersion of phenolic resin is prepared by mixing a) a pre-formed phenolic resin, solid and non-water-soluble, b) water, c) an organic coupling solvent and d) polyvinyl alcohol, to a temperature and for a sufficient time for a dispersion of this phenolic resin to form in water. This aqueous priming composition clearly limits the use of organic solvents, withstands pre-cooking conditions and offers a strong adhesive bond which proves to be flexible and resistant in aggressive media. |
