titleOfInvention Microstructured membranes and methods for making same
abstract A microstructured membrane comprising a sheet having a first and a second side, a matrix of pores extending into the sheet from the first side and in some cases extending entirely through the sheet. Virtually every pore in the matrix is individually surrounded by a planar surface, and most of the walls of each pore are nearly parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pore. The pores have average characteristic dimensions between about 0.1 and 5000 microns, and a pore size distribution of less than about 10%, with the longitudinal axes of the pores in the matrix being substantially parallel to each other. Articles comprising such membranes and methods of making are also disclosed.
