abstract |
A circumferential flow route (86) is established around an axis of rotation, while the circumferential flow route (86) is rotated about the axis. Blood is introduced into the circumferential flow (86) rotating through an inlet (122) having an axis parallel to the axis of rotation. The axial inlet flow and the circumferential separation flow create a vortex xone (148) which circulates around the axis of the orifice and extends through the circumferential flow (86). The swirl zone (148) spreads the blood uniformly in the circumferential flow (86) so as to separate the constituents therefrom. |
