titleOfInvention Multi-resolution digital transmission system
abstract Multiresolution digital transmission system capable of discriminating a first level of low resolution by detection of groups of symbols as well as at least a second level of high resolution by detection of symbols in groups of symbols. The system comprises a transmitter (5) provided with means (14,16,18) for differentially modulating the groups of symbols assigned to the low resolution level and a receiver (6) provided with means for detecting (20) groups of modulated symbols differentially and provide detected symbols assigned to the low resolution level. In a more efficient mode of operation, the detection means of the receiver can detect symbols assigned to the high resolution level. The system can be used for digital transmission of dual resolution television signals. Application: digital dual resolution transmissions; Digital TV.
