The described photographic element improves speed in the blue and ultra-violet region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectral response of the photographic element is improved using at least one dye represented by formula (I) in which A1 and A2 represent hydrogen or, taken together, represent X-CH =, where X represents hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted five-membered heterocyclic ring, a substituted or unsubstituted six-membered heterocyclic ring, aryl or aryl substituted with at least one member selected from the group consisting of alkyl, halogen, aryl, carbonyl, alkoxy , sulphonate, carboxy or trifluoroalkyl; Y represents alkyl, aryl or COR in which R represents OH, NR2 or OM +, where R2 represents hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl; M + represents HNR33 + or a metal cation, R3 representing hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl; Z represents hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl. |
