titleOfInvention LOW-TEMPERATURE METHOD FOR SYNTHESISING FINE-GRAINED TUNGSTEN CARBIDE.
abstract A method of low temperature synthesis of tungsten carbide particles into micrograins having an average diameter of 0.05 to 0.2 mum includes the programmed heating of tungsten trioxide powder or other tungsten-containing material in an atmosphere circulating molecular hydrogen with a constant molecular methane ratio. The reheating program takes place at two different reheating rates, the first being greater than the second. The first heating rate is 5 ° C to 50 ° C per minute from 25 ° C to 535 ° C. The second heating rate is 1 ° C to 10 ° C per minute from approximately 535 ° C to 850 ° C. The last temperature is then maintained until the end of the conversion of tungsten trioxide or of the other material containing tungsten to tungsten carbide, that is to say between 15 minutes and 3 hours.
