The invention relates to a stabilized immunoglobulin composition comprising at least one immunoglobulin as well as a stabilizing amount of a copper ion chelating agent such as EDTA or citrate. Preferably, the immunoglobulin is an antibody, for example a recombinant CDR grafted antibody directed against the CDw52 antigen, preferably CAMPATH-1H. The invention also relates to a method for increasing the stability of an immunoglobulin which comprises subjecting the immunoglobulin to a purification procedure capable of removing copper ions present thereon. Preferably, the immunoglobulin is rendered substantially free of detectable copper ions, for example by spectroscopy with atomic absorption. |
