abstract A process relates to the preparation of compounds of formula (I) where R 'represents hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, CHR3CONHR4 or CHR3COOR4 where R3 and R4 each independently represent hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl; R2 represents hydrogen or C1-5 alkyl; and n is an integer from 2 to 4; the method involves making a compound of formula (II) cyclic where R2 and n correspond to the definition of formula (I); R5 represents hydrogen or a COOR7 group where R7 represents a C1-4 alkyl group or a benzyl group; and R6 represents a hydroxy group or an OR8 group where R8 represents C1-6 alkyl or a benzyl group; it is subsequently necessary to carry out one or more of the following operations: i) removing any protecting group and ii) transforming a compound of formula (I) into another compound of formula (I).
