titleOfInvention Magnetooptical reproducing head and apparatus for reproducing magnetically recorded data from multiple tracks
abstract The magneto-optical read head for magnetic tape reading devices is a multitrack head which comprises a magneto-optical layer (32) intended to read very narrow tracks (width and not less than 15 micrometers) and whose particularity is that 'it is continuous across the width of the head. The reading beam illuminates the head very close to the linear air gap (34 ') adjacent to the continuous layer. This is preferably magnetically anisotropic to limit crosstalk between tracks. The light beam (12) modulated by the magneto-optical layer falls on a linear photosensitive detector and the tracking of the tracks, facilitated by the fact that the layer is continuous, is made by relative displacement of the detector with respect to the image projected by the beam on the detector, without moving the head relative to the magnetic strip.
