titleOfInvention | Fingerprinting bacterial strains using repetitive dna sequence amplification |
abstract | Oligonucleotide primers and methods for identifying bacterial strains by determining genomic fingerprints are described. These methods apply to a wide variety of samples. The test procedure involves the amplification of the bacterial DNA found in the sample to be tested, thanks to the addition in the latter of two primers directed towards the outside. These can hybridize with repetitive sequences of bacterial DNA and extend outward from one repetitive hybridizable sequence to another. After amplification, the extension products are sorted by size and the specific bacterial strain is determined by measuring the configuration of these products. This procedure for identifying bacterial strains by determining fingerprints finds many uses including: the identification of bacteria in the event of infection, for agricultural or horticultural plots, biomedication, control of foodstuffs, surveillance of production and assurance as well as quality control. |
