Two intermediate transfer type ink jet recording methods, a recording apparatus suitable for practicing these methods, and an ink composition utilized in the methods and apparatus are disposed. A first recording method consists of the steps of discharging a thermoplastic resin-containing ink composition onto an intermediate drum so as to form an ink image thereon, heating this ink image at a temperature not lower than the softening or melting point of the thermoplastic resin so as to turn the image into a film, and thereafter transferring the film onto recording paper. A second recording method consists of the steps of discharging a thermoplastic resin-containing ink composition onto an intermediate drum so as to form an ink image thereon, heating the ink image so as to form a condensed ink image, transferring the resultant image onto recording paper, and thereafter heating the image at a temperature not lower than the softening or melting point of the thermoplastic resin. In the recording method according to the present invention, an excellent printing can be obtained irrespective of the quality of recording paper and even under a low transfer pressure. |
