This invention relates to new polyesters, fibers and films, and nonwovens made from the fibers as well as disposable products made from the polyesters, such as diapers. These products are degradable under the specific conditions existing during the composting of waste, require a low cost with regard to the ingredients and nevertheless have the strength and solidity properties necessary for the end use as is the case for disposable diapers. The polyesters are mainly composed of a polyalkylene terephthalate copolymerized with hexahydroterephthalic acid and contain di- or tri-ethylene glycol and sulfo groups of alkaline earth metals and alkali metals, such as a metallic derivative of 5-sulfoisophthalic acid. |
