Metal phenate sulfides |
abstract |
Overbased metal phenate sulfides, having a relatively high alkalinity reflected by the total base number (TBN), as well as good viscosity characteristics, are synthesized with a dispersant comprising a dialkyl metallic sulfosuccinate or a combination of dialkyl metallic sulfosuccinate and a metallic hydrocarbylsulfonate. The preferred dialkyl metal sulfosuccinate is dioctylsodium sulfosuccinate. The preferred metal hydrocabylsulfonate is calcium dinonylnaphthalenesulfonate which is added to provide the product with aging and heat stability. Overbased metal phenate sulfides are suitable as additives to functional fluids and lubricants. |
