titleOfInvention Process for producing a reinforced, foamed polyurethane panel
abstract A method of producing a shock absorbing panel with at least one energy absorbing surface in a mold having two lower and upper parts. The method consists in placing a reinforcing layer in at least one of the two upper or lower mold parts. A liquid containing polyurethane convertible into foam is then introduced into the lower mold part. The upper and lower mold parts are then closed, delimiting a space corresponding practically to the damping panel. The foaming liquid polyurethane is then expanded and fills this space to give a resistant core of polyurethane foam which adheres to the reinforcing layer, thereby providing a cushioning surface. The reinforcement layer offers a higher tensile strength than that of the elastic core of polyurethane foam. After compression of the panel on its damping surface to approximately 50% of its initial volume in a direction relatively perpendicular to the reinforcing layer, the panel takes up at least 90% of said initial volume in less than 30 minutes. This panel finds various uses, in particular in the construction of vehicles.
