abstract |
Disclosed are thermosetting unsaturated polyester-polyurethane hybrid foam compositions which are formed by reacting a composition A and a composition B. Composition A contains a polyfunctional isocyanate compound and a free radical primer . Composition B contains a mixture of: (i) an ethylene-unsaturated monomer solution in which approximately 30 to 90% by weight of polyester polyol is dissolved, containing at least one ethylene-unsaturated group per molecule having mainly hydroxyl end groups : (ii) an amine compound having one or more primary or secondary amine groups in an amount sufficient to react with composition A in order to form small urea domains finely dispersed in a continuous polyester-polyurethane hybrid phase; and (iii) approximately 25 to 150 equivalents of water based on 100 equivalents of active hydrogen in composition B. When compositions A and B are reacted, the resulting mixture will have a ratio between the active NCO groups of the isocyanate and the active NH groups of the amine compound from approximately 10: 1 to approximately 50: 1, and an isocyanate index, NCO (NH + OH + COOH + HOH) of approximately 0.5 to 2 , 0. |
