abstract | Process for the preparation of syndiotactic vinyl aromatic polymers comprising contacting at least one vinyl aromatic monomer which can be polymerized under polymerization conditions with a catalyst comprising a compound corresponding to the formula: LmMXn + RA, in which: L represents a delocalized pi linking group containing up to 50 non-hydrogen atoms; m is 0 or 1; M represents a metal from group 4 of the Periodic Table; X represents, in all cases, an anionic inert ligand containing up to 20 non-hydrogen atoms; n is an integer greater than or equal to 1 and the sum of m and n is 1 less than the valence of M; RA represents RB (C6F5) 3, where R represents hydride, hydrocarbyl, silyl, one of their combinations or one of their substituted derivatives having up to 20 non-hydrogen atoms. The invention also describes a process for preparing the catalyst. |
