Herpes virus proteinase and method of assaying |
abstract |
The invention relates to a herpes virus proteinase encoded by a member of a family of four genes nested in the simian cytomegalovirus. Another element of the nested genes encodes a precursor of assembly protein which is a substrate intended for proteinase. Homologous genes have been found in other herpes viruses. Cleavage sites recognized by proteinase are identified in cytomegalovirus and have been found to be well conserved in other herpes viruses. The invention also relates to substrates, inhibitors, titration kits and titration methods using proteinase and its activity. |
