abstract A receptor (binding protein) specific for 6(R)-L-erythro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin which is efficacious against psychoneurosis such as autism. It is present in the cytosol or membrane fraction obtained from an animal organ homogenate, can be solubilized from the membrane fraction in the presence of CHAPS, or 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate, and is characterized in that it loses most of the capacity of binding with 6R-BH4 when heated at 100 DEG C for 10 min, that it loses significantly the capacity of binding with 6R-BH4 when incubated with trypsin at 37 DEG C for 15 min, and that it has a relative molecular weight of around 340-380 kDa when analyzed by using a molecular sieve comprising a Cosmosil 5 Diol-300 column after being specifically combined with tritium-labeled 6R-BH4.
