titleOfInvention | Novel finishing process for hydroxy-functional polyethers |
abstract | Process for the preparation of a hydroxy-functional polyether comprising contacting (a) a hydroxy-functional polyether with a content of less than or equal to 200 ppm of a metal ion of group IA or of group IIA and (b) an acid. Preferably, the contact is effected under reaction conditions such as a salt, which is not suitable for significantly promoting trimerization reactions when the hydroxy-functional polyether is reacted with an isocyanate compound, is formed. The amount of acid is sufficient to substantially neutralize the residual basic catalyst without the need for additional solids removal steps before using the hydroxy-functional polyether in various applications, such as the production of polyurethanes. and related products, for which enhanced trimerization is not necessarily desirable. An additional amount of acid can also be added to convert the propenylether units present in the polyether backbone to the propyl aldehyde and the corresponding diol. |
