abstract | A composition for coating medical blood contacting surfaces comprises a mixture of an anticoagulant and a defoaming agent. The coating composition is applied by either dipping the device into a solution containing the mixture or by spraying the mixture onto the surface. Alternatively, the surface can be sequentially dip coated and/or sprayed with the individual components. In a preferred embodiment, the anticoagulant is a quaternary ammonium complex of heparin, preferably stearyldimethylbenzyl ammonium heparin, and the antifoaming agent is a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane and silicone dioxide. |
