Combination monophasic action potential/ablation catheter and high-performance filter system |
abstract |
Combination catheter for both the detection of monophasic action potentials and the ablation of surface tissue in vivo in a patient's heart. The apparatus includes a catheter probe having a terminal portion (10) and an electrode (20) carried by said terminal portion, such that a portion of the terminal electrode (20) is exposed to the environment. A reference electrode (50) placed along the end portion is spaced from the first electrode and is intended to provide a reference potential signal. An ablation electrode (30) adjacent to both the end portion (20) and the reference electrodes (50), but electrically insulated therefrom, is intended to supply electromagnetic energy to the end portion. Said electrodes are electrically connected to the proximal end of the catheter via individual conductors or wires (22, 32 and 30) which run through an insulated cable. An electronic filter allows the recording of monophasic action potentials during ablation, without radio frequency interference. The catheter may also include standard cardiography and / or stimulation electrodes (80 and 75) respectively. Said catheter may also include a guiding mechanism intended to place the catheter in place at various treatment sites of the heart, and a structure intended to maintain the terminal electrode in substantially perpendicular contact with the cardiac tissue with positive pressure, and to separate the heart tissue reference electrode. |
