abstract A method and device for staining histological specimens arranged on microscope slides. Microscope slides are transported by a conveyor device (18) in retainers to processing stations (16), where they are subjected to processing steps corresponding to a selectable staining process. The conveyor device (18) is designed so that each microscope slide retainer (14) can be separated from the conveyor device after entering a processing station (16), and so that during the time of performing the processing step in said processing station other microscope slide holders (14) can be transported to still free processing stations (16) depending on the selected staining method.
