abstract Disclosed is a process for the preparation of polyolefins, which comprises polymerizing an olefin using a procatalyst composition which has been prepared by combining magnesium chloride, a lower alcohol, a titanium compound and an ester of phthalic acid. The invention also relates to this procatalyst composition. In this invention, it has been possible to lower the concentrations of titanium and phthalic acid ester in the catalyst, and consequently also in the polyolefin, and at the same time it has been possible to prepare polyolefins with large pores, whose presence is important for certain uses. It has been possible to obtain these properties by using a procatalyst of this type for the preparation of which a transesterification has been carried out between the lower alcohol and the phthalic acid ester, and by choosing for the transesterification an acid ester phthalic whose alkoxy group contains at least 10 carbon atoms.
