abstract New platinum (II) complexes with potent antitumor activity and corresponding to formula (I), in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group respectively, or together form a cycloalkane group together with the carbon atom bonded thereto; the two X's together form a group corresponding to formula (a) or (b), in which R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R4 and R5 are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group respectively, or together form a cyclobutane together with the carbon atom bonded thereto; and the absolute configurations at the respective chiral centers in the 4,5-bis (aminomethyl) -1,3-dioxolane fraction are (4R, 5R) or (4S), (5S); their preparation processes; and their use for the treatment of cancers in humans and animals. Furthermore, new intermediates used to prepare said platinum (II) complexes are described, as well as methods for preparing these intermediates.
