The invention describes a stabilized, aqueous, film-forming hydrogen peroxide composition. The active component of oxygen-generating hydrogen peroxide of the composition is stabilized in a water-based solvent system and polyol of predetermined polarity containing polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). In comparison, similar PVP-free formulations have experienced loss of peroxide activity over time. The composition described suitably comprises about 1-20% by weight of hydrogen peroxide, about 0.1-50% by weight of PVP and about 0.1-80% by weight of a polyol, the rest being made up of water. Preferably, about 5-20% by weight of water is present in the composition. Additional solvents such as alcohols, ether oxides, esters, triglycerides of fatty acids, hydrocarbons, N-vinyl lactams, silicone oils and polyether oligomers can be added. |
