Compositions and methods are provided for adhering and binding of proteins and nucleic acids to coated substrates. Adhesive formulations comprising a nonproteinaceous polymer of monomeric units comprising an aromatic moiety substituted with at least one hydroxyl group with a pK less than 9, are applied to substrates and subsequently contacted with proteins and/or nucleic acids. Substrates to which the adhesive formulations have been applied, can be used to purify and enzymatically manipulate nucleic acids. |
