abstract The change in wall thickness in the area of the weld (20) of a tube (22) is measured using the ultrasonic measurement method. At least two probes (28, 30) are acoustically coupled to the tube (22) via a water jet (32). The probes are jointly moved parallel to the axis of the tube (24). At least the first probe moves in a reciprocating motion transverse to the tube axis (24), and each time passes over the weld (20). The second probe (30) emits acoustic radiation either always outside the weld (20) in the tube (22), or it also passes through the weld (20), but at different times compared to the first probe (28). The signals from the two probes (28, 30) are processed in a circuit (40) for processing the measured values in such a way that measured value deviations present simultaneously do not provide an output signal.
