The invention also relates to a method for controlling the distribution of an internal combustion engine comprising the following steps: detecting, with the engine running, the mechanical vibrations generated by the impact of at least one valve head (2) (1) of a cylinder on its seat (6) at the time of closing, said detection being carried out by a probe according to one of the preceding claims, placed on the cylinder head (5) of the engine, compare the time of occurrence of said vibrations mechanical with at least one reference instant (SYN) positioned on the motor cycle. <IMAGE>
